The medication-assisted treatment (MAT) waiver training program is part of an initiative to train and certify qualified medical professionals in the administration of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder (OUD). In an effort to expand resources and treatment options to OUD patients, the MAT program aims to increase the number of providers that will apply for the Drug Abuse and Treatment Act (DATA) 2000 waiver and become prescribers of buprenorphine in an office-based setting.
The training population includes students (medical, physician assistant and nurse practitioner) and faculty at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and Kings County Hospital Center. Offered on several platforms, the MAT training can be completed online through the Provider’s Clinical Support System (PCSS). This program is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
